University Police Department Deputy Chief Skip Frost, who was on scene of the incident Tuesday morning, said the power line short circuited and popped, making those around believe there was an explosion.

“It was really loud, which made people think it was an explosion. People were running from the area,” Frost said.

Frost added that reports of a gas odor on campus several blocks west of the incident made the police and fire department concerned of the explosion.

Once on scene, Frost said there were no injuries, dangling wires or damage to the area. The area is safe for students and faculty to use.
