Fire in Roger Adams Laboratory causes $3,000 in damages

A fire that led to an Illini Alert was reported at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in Roger Adams Laboratory, 600 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana.

According to a press release, a student reported the fire when he or she saw smoke and light coming from a closet on the first floor of the lab. The Urbana Fire Department was on the scene in four minutes.

The majority of the fire was controlled by the sprinkler systems. The police department evacuated the building, and there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The estimated cost of the damages, including cleanup, is $3,000.
