Second man dies after Saturday shootings

A second man shot in Champaign Saturday has died from his injuries.

Yojevol Sturkey was shot in the 900 block of West Bradley Avenue at 2:15 a.m. The 35-year-old sustained gunshot wounds and was found unresponsive on the ground by police.

He was transported with life threatening injuries to Carle Foundation Hospital, according to a press release from Champaign Police Department.

Sturkey died in the Intensive Care Unit at Carle Hospital at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the Champaign County Coroner.

Another man was shot and later died in a separate incident Saturday morning in Champaign.

The second victim, a 24-year-old male, was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. Saturday from multiple gunshot wounds. The man, Jermel Hendrick, was shot at around 4 a.m. in the the area of Summit Ridge and Hedge Road, according to the release.

When police arrived at the scene they found that Hendrick had left the scene and was transported by car to Carle Hospital for life threatening injuries.
