ISS allocates funds for Spring Lobby day

By Charlotte Collins

The Illinois Student Senate passed a resolution allocating $1,532 to fund two buses for students to go to Lobby Day on April 15.

On Lobby Day, students from the University will go to Springfield to lobby on issues facing students on campus. Illinois Connection, the University of Illinois Alumni Association and ISS are teaming together to support the event.

This year, Lobby Day will focus on trying to deter the 31.5 percent budget cut to higher education proposed by Gov. Bruce Rauner. Student Body President Mitch Dickey recently formed a task force committee to address the cuts in the form of an executive action.

If passed, Rauner’s proposal would cut $209 million from the University’s funding.

“This lobby day compared to any of the other ones that I’ve been to is going to be really important,” Dickey said. “I think right now is the most critical time for any student to get involved in state politics.”
