President Killeen redirects $8.2 million to financial aid and other student programs

University president Timothy L. Killeen announced this morning that he will redirect $8.2 million from centrally-held University accounts to financial aid and other student-centered programs on the three campuses.

The action reflects Killeen’s statements when he first took office to put students first.

“Leadership starts at the top, and this is a first step to ensure that we manage our financial resources wisely and effectively to serve our students and the people of Illinois,” Killeen said in a press release.

Previously, these funds were under the direction of the president and have been used for projects such as campus facility renovations, information technology upgrades and other initiatives.

Campuses will be required to submit proposals for some of the funds. These shares could be used toward financial aid, minority student recruitment, counseling and placement services as well as other student-centered programs, Killeen said.
