Interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson released a statement reaffirming the University’s stance on equal opportunity, affirmative action and equal access Thursday.

The statement, which was sent out to students through a University Massmail, touched on the University’s commitment to providing a diverse campus. Wilson emphasized the University’s affirmative action plan to increase the representation of women, minorities, persons with disabilities and protected veterans as well as its commitment to comply with Title IX.

Wilson also encouraged students to participate in events and programs during Inclusive Illinois Week, which runs from September 26 to October 2. Gigi Secuban, the associate vice chancellor for student fffairs, said that Inclusive Illinois Week will be a great way for students to see first hand the diversity at the University.

“[Inclusive Illinois is] doing a number of service projects, they’re celebrating Hispanic heritage month, there’s a number of things such as Culture Shock, that’s happening in the Union tomorrow,” Secuban said. “It’s just a way for students to just experience the diversity that we have on our campus.”
