Faculty members to discuss censure, background checks

By Daily Illini Staff Report

The University chapter of the American Association of University Professors will hold a public discussion about censure on Oct. 20.

The discussion will be led by three faculty panelists and will focus on issues that developed from the AAUP’s decision to censure the University as well as the Board of Trustees proposal to require background checks for all new employees.

Harry Hilton, chapter president, will moderate the panel, which will include, David O’Brien, art history associate professor and Jessica Greenberg, anthropology associate professor. O’Brien will give a presentation titled, “Censure: Where Does the University Go Next?” and Greenberg will give a presentation titled, “The Problems with Background Checks.”

The discussion will be open to the public following the panelists’ presentations.

The event will be held on Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. in room 314A of the Illini Union.
