The University of Illinois Police Department is reminding students, faculty and staff of sexual assault resources available on campus, after three sexual assaults reported in August.

The University has various places to report sexual assault when someone is ready to do so, the statement reads. The We Care website outlines the options a student has and provides resources for those who seek help but do not want to be publicly identified.

The police department has established a Special Victims Unit of detectives who are trained to deal with sexual assault investigations and interact with survivors.

The incidents were announced in Campus Safety Notices sent out to students’ emails. The UIPD website states one in five women and one in 16 men will experience sexual assault or attempted sexual assault during their undergraduate years.

“The community needs to reinforce that every form of sexual violence is unacceptable, and that’s a culture shift taking place right now,” UIPD Chief Jeff Christensen said. “Our students took that upon themselves with the It’s On Us campaign, and we as a police department want to support survivors however possible.”
