A walk and concert is set for Thursday to show community support for Yingying Zhang, a missing scholar. UIPD and the FBI are continuing their search.

Over the past three academic years, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts has sold roughly 20,000 tickets per year. For students, tickets come at a discounted price of $10 per ticket.

However, that could all change this week.

On March 8 and 9, a reaffirmation vote will be held for students of the University to decide whether or not students will still be charged the Krannert Center fee.

The $17.28 student fee is paid every semester by students and is meant to support the subsidized student ticket prices, production costs and free events at Krannert.

The inclusion of this student fee accounts for 13 percent of the Krannert Center’s budget.

In 1992, this fee meant to support the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts was included in student tuition, which allows for the $10 ticket price.

If students vote for the removal of the fee, it is likely that Krannert will be forced to charge full priced admission for tickets as well as limit the number of performances held at Krannert.

Due to their focus on student engagement and marketing, the Krannert Center Ambassadors have set out to remind the student body of the importance of easy access to the performing arts by reaching out to students on social media as well as talking to both classes and clubs.

“It’s important to embrace the performing arts to get a well-rounded education and we really rely on low ticket prices to influence attendance,” said Nicole Haley, member of the Krannert Center Ambassadors. “If the fee is no longer included, prices could jump anywhere from $30 to $60.”
