A phishing scam hit University email accounts on Tuesday morning, according to Technology Services.

Hackers sent out an email disguised as a fax message, in hopes that the person would click on the link.

Once the attachment is opened, a Word document will install TrickBot, a malware, onto Windows computers which then leaves the person’s passwords vulnerable.

Technology Services recommends those who believe they have the malware to install an anti-malware device, such as Malware Bytes. The malware program should be sufficient in removing the virus.

Any passwords saved to a computer that has been hacked should be changed in order to prevent further harm.
