Early voting started at the Illini Union on Monday. Many campaigns have placed signs out front to persuade voters.

There have been eight additional early voting locations opened for the upcoming primary election. The County Clerk Office will also be extending its hours during this time.

Voters can now go to Tolono Public Library, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, First United Methodist Church, Lake of the Woods Pavilion, Meadowbrook Community Church, Leonhard Recreation Center, the Church of the Living God, room 213 in Illini Union and the Office of the Champaign County Clerk.

Voting hours in the Illini Union are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Early voting will be available to all registered voters in Champaign County and grace period voter registration and voting to all eligible residents.

“We want to make voting convenient, accessible and secure for Champaign County’s citizens,” said Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten in a press release.

Hulten said the purpose of early voting is to allow voters to choose the location, time and method of voting that is most convenient for them and to encourage them to participate in the elections.

Hulten said this expansion of early voting locations is the normal expansion typically done for countywide elections.

“Demand for early voting usually increase as election day approaches,” he wrote in an email.
