By Samantha Boyle, Assistant Daytime News Editor

Nine hundred and forty-four University of Illinois students were notified Tuesday they received tickets to attend former President Barack Obama’s speech at 11 a.m. Friday.

Of those 944 students, 756 are from the Urbana-Champaign campus, Robin Kaler, spokeswoman for the University, said in an email. The Chicago campus received 141 tickets and the Springfield campus received 47.

A total of about 22,000 students at the Urbana-Champaign campus applied to receive tickets, Kaler said.

Those who did not receive tickets are invited to attend a live viewing party of Obama’s speech in the gymnasium at Huff Hall, 1206 S. Fourth St.

About 4,400 students will be able to attend this viewing party, Kaler said.
