Zorba’s closed due to noncompliance with tax laws

By Samantha Boyle, The Daily Illini Staff Report

A sign was posted in front of Zorba’s, 627 E. Green St., stating the “business’s certificate of registration is hereby revoked.”

Zorba’s has been around Champaign since 1973 and has undergone many changes since, including being closed for a year due to a fire on the upper floor.

“Zorba’s had a green sign posted on their business by the Illinois Department of Revenue due to non-compliance with tax laws,” Terry Horstman, communications office manager of the Illinois Department of Revenue, said in an email. “Due to taxpayer confidentiality laws, we cannot divulge the particulars of the non-compliance.”
