Champaign police respond to scene of shooting

By Hannah Preston, Interim editor-in-chief

On Monday evening, Champaign police investigated the 1000 block of North James Street at approximately 5:02 p.m. A 35-year-old man who suffered a life-threatening gunshot in the abdomen was found at the scene and transported to a hospital to receive treatment. His condition is unknown.

The police believe the injury resulted from a verbal argument inside a nearby residence and is not believed to have been a random act of violence.

The suspect has been identified as a 21-year-old male from Champaign, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

This is a developing story.
