By Clare Budin, Assistant Daytime News Editor

The news of an unexpected death from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was announced  Thursday through email by Associate Head for Graduate Affairs, Michael Oelze.

Yuhe Cao passed away on Aug. 26, and the department is working with appropriate campus offices to provide support to Cao’s family and others impacted by his death, the statement sent by Oelze said.

Oelze gave no indication in his statement to Cao’s cause of death.

As a way to support all ECE department members, staff from the Office of the Dean of Students and the Counseling Center are set to visit the department at a time that has yet to be confirmed in order to share strategies for dealing with the loss of a friend or colleague and allow members to talk to staff about their feelings of loss. In his statement, Oelze provided suggested resources from the Counseling Center, McKinley Health Center and the Student Assistance Center for those who may need support.
