Police make arrest, investigate gunshots in Champaign

Gunshots were heard at around 12:29 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Paula Drive and Joanne Lane. 

Champaign Police arrived at the scene after hearing multiple gunshots fired. One of the responding officers witnessed the offender fleeing the scene with possession of a gun before discarding the weapon. 

Shortly after attempting to flee, the offender was arrested on the charges of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession/Use of a Weapon by a Felon. Following the arrest, the police recovered evidence from the scene, including the shell casings from the offender’s gun. 

The offender was revealed to be 24-year old male Miguel Lucio. Lucio is currently at the Champaign County Correctional Center where he is being held until further notice of future procedure in court. 

Although the offender was arrested, the investigation will continue.
