As students flock back to campus to celebrate Greek Reunion, several campus bars are closed to follow social distancing.

KAM’s, Joe’s Brewery and The Red Lion are all closed Friday through Sunday.

This comes after city leaders have taken steps to enforce social distancing guidelines in bars. Champaign Mayor Deborah Feinen issued Emergency Order 20-21 on July 2, which allows enforcement action to be taken against bars operating at a total indoor and outdoor capacity of 200 people or more.

The Emergency Order also states that liquor establishments which violate Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan can be subject to additional actions.

This includes “emergency closures of the business as well as fines, suspension or revocation of the establishment’s liquor license,” according to a City of Champaign press release
