Deceptive practices were reported by a University student between Feb. 5 and Tuesday. According to the report, the student was contacted via social media by an unknown person who claimed to be wealthy and offered to help the student. The offender sent checks to the student, who was directed to deposit the money into his account and then use an online banking app to send a portion of that money to third parties. The student then transferred $1,000 of his own money to other people, and learned later that the original checks never cleared.

Criminal damage to property was reported on the 1000 block of Kerr Avenue around 7 p.m. on Monday. According to the report, two unknown offenders slashed the tires of the victim’s vehicle.
