Battery was reported outside Altgeld Hall at 1409 W. Green St., Urbana around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the report, a University student said she was approached by two unknown offenders on bicycles. One of the offenders claimed to have COVID-19 and intentionally coughed on the student while the other yelled at her. The offenders fled when the student tried to deter them with pepper spray.

Trespassing was reported at the Main Library on 1408 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana on Wednesday. According to the report, an unknown offender placed a mannequin head on an ornamental lightning rod on the roof of the building. The University employee who reported this said this was the second occurrence in three days.

Urbana

An arrest was made on the charge of cruel treatment of an animal on the 800 block of Hawthorne Drive around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the report, the suspect allegedly battered her dog using a metal object and a pipe at least twice in the past week. On one occasion, the dog was beaten with a pipe-like object which broke due to the amount of force exerted. The suspect was taken to jail and the dog was taken to a veterinary clinic to receive medical treatment. The instances of battery were recorded on video.
