Letter: Preserving equality

I’ve read several letters about the war, and particularly, the last one from James Reed called “War forever more.” It is the constant misunderstanding of those who tend to be on the left that people who are willing to resort to force are warmongers. The only way to assure peace, as defined by the absence of war, is to surrender, put on the burkas and adopt the sharia law. Freedom required people to fight for it. Sometimes that can be done “peacefully,” sometimes it cannot. Saddam would not have freed his people if we gave him the right amount of “stuff.” This quote from President Dwight D. Eisenhower says it best. “If all Americans want is security, they can go to prison. They’ll have enough to eat, a bed and a roof over their heads. But if an American wants to preserve his dignity and his equality as a human being, he must not bow his neck to any dictatorial government.”
