Letter to the Editor | Young people need to vote

By Benjamin Escobar

Young people aren’t always able to take advantage of the right to vote. As a young student myself, I am pained to see this. The youngest voting demographics are consistently the lowest.

A lot of eligible young voters aren’t even registered. Even if they are, they don’t always have the capability or resources needed to turn out the vote.

Every eligible voter deserves to be heard. This includes young people. After all, they’re the ones who will experience the effects of the decisions being made by politicians the most.

Economic decisions will have a large impact on the up-and-coming young professionals. Big issues pertinent to the age group (higher education, civil/social issues, etc.) are often overlooked.

With high-stakes elections coming up, it’s critical to work with students and young people on campuses all across the state and to ensure young people are represented.
