Save pensions of UI employees
AFSCME 3700 and 698 encourage all of the UI community to attend the AFSCME Council 31 and Illinois Federation of Teachers regional legislative forum where we will make it clear to the area legislators that we need “Fair Solutions for a Fair Budget.”
AFSMCE feels that “we’re in the center of a perfect storm”. The state budget woes have been expanding due to years of bad decisions, a broken tax system and underfunding of the SURS pension plan.
Gov. Quinn and some lawmakers now want active, retired and future state employees to pay the price. Threats are being made to add huge costs for our health insurance and pensions while slashing the pension benefits for future hires.
We must remember that those that are covered by the SURS (State University Retirement System) don’t pay into the Social Security System….this is their only pension.

Area legislators have been invited to the Fair Budget Forum, Monday May 4 at 6 p.m., Room D244, Parkland College in Champaign. Come out and support our efforts to save the pensions of UI employees.
