Five current and former Illini have begun competition in the singles main draw of the Car-X futures of Champaign, a USTA Pro Circuit Event, held at the Atkins Tennis Center. Singles action started Monday.

Current Illini competing in the event are juniors Aron Hiltzik and Aleks Vukic. Illini Alums Jared Hiltzik, Tim Kopinski and Dennis Nevolo have also returned to their collegiate home court to compete in the event.

Vukic, Kopinski, and Nevolo all played their first round matches Monday. Of the three, Vukic was the only one to advance after defeating fellow Australian, Omar Jasika, 6-4, 6-2. The Hiltzik brothers will begin play Tuesday morning.

“I am super excited for all of our guys to compete here at home in the Car-X Championships. It is great to have Dennis kick start the day, and you get the trifecta on Monday – Tim Kopinski, Aleks Vukic and Dennis Nevolo – all in one.” Illinois men’s tennis head coach Brad Dancer said.

Admission is free throughout the tournament.  The full draw can be seen here.
