Hockey looks to continue undefeated season

By Jim Carter

The Illinois mens hockey team is currently undefeated this season and looks to keep winning. For the Illini, the goals are always to win the League and National tournements, but going undefeated would be a bonus.

Assistant Coach Darin Trulock said that even though the team has struggled at times, their record is some how still unblemished.

“One of the things that stands out to me is we seem to be finding ways to win,” Trulock said. “You know pulling off games late in the game; we would get down or we get tied and forcing overtime or winning in overtime. That’s one thing that’s kind of stood out about this team this so far this year.”

Trulock feels that every team the Illini have played gear up for the No. 1-ranked team and put their best effort forward.

Sophmore Brad Hoelzer is impressed with the team’s performance so far and feels they haven’t peaked.

“I would give it in the nines, nine out of ten or a nine and 1/2 out of ten,” Hoelzer said. “As a team we are obviously almost hitting on all cylinders, we’re just missing a few pieces to our game here and there.”

The Illini will be playing Illinois State University for the last series of the semester this weekend with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. at the ice arena. You can hear the game coverage starting with Standing Room Only at 6 p.m.
