CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) _ Illinois forward Jenna Smith is the Big Ten player of the week for the third time this season.

Smith scored 19 points and had 16 rebounds in the Illini’s 66-52 win at Missouri Wednesday. The sophomore shot better than 53 percent from the field and hit five of her seven free throws.

Smith was Big Ten player of the week twice in November. She’s the first Illini woman to be named conference player of the week three times during a season in 22 years.

Smith leads the conference in rebounds, with 10.6 a game. She’s a 62 percent shooter, also best in the Big Ten, and she’s averaging almost 20 points a game, second in the conference.

The Illini are 9-3 so far this season.
