The Illini fell to the high-powered Wolverines 5-2 on Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Illinois started off slow, dropping the doubles point 2-1. Freshman Annie McCarthy and sophomore Kristina Minor held their own against Michigan’s Lindsey Howard and Rika Tatsuno on court three. The Illini tandem put up an 8-7 (3) abbreviated match win because the point had already been decided. In singles, Michigan did not let up. Illinois kept fighting but was put away as the Wolverines won three of the first four matches. The bright spot of the match was the singles play of Minor and junior Shivani Dave who took it to the Wolverines, winning on courts six and four respectively. The team is back on the road Sunday, when it will take on Penn State at 9 a.m.
