Blackhawks take aggressive Beach in first round

By The Associated Press

CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks picked power forward Kyle Beach with the 11th overall pick of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-3, 203-pound Beach played last season with the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips.

The 18-year-old finished second overall in goals and third overall in points. Beach got the Rookie of the Year award for the 2006-2007 season.

He’s an imposing presence on the ice and his 222 penalty minutes reveal a nasty streak. Some say he has attitude problems and is hard to control.

Beach is a native of Kelowna, British Columbia.
