Women’s cross country finishes ninth at Notre Dame Invitational

The women’s cross country team tied for ninth on Friday in the Notre Dame Invitational, with senior Katie Engel leading the way in her season debut.

No. 3 Florida State won the Invitational, while No. 28 North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Brie Felnagle took the individual honors.

Engel broke her 5K personal best with a time of 16:54 and grabbing ninth place in the process. Freshman Kristin Sutherland (45th place), junior Theresa Brokaw (62), sophomore Chantelle Groenewoud (64) and junior Elizabeth Boyle (78) also broke their personal best 5K times.

The Illini will travel to Peoria, Ill., to race in the Bradley Classic on Oct. 17 and then compete in Pre-Nationals the following day.
