No. 16 Illinois volleyball continues winning ways against Iowa

By Kate Munson

The No. 16 Fighting Illini continued their dominant Big Ten performance against Iowa on Friday, defeating the Hawkeyes in four sets (20-25, 25-11, 25-23, 25-22).

Freshman outside hitter Michelle Bartsch led the way for the Illini with 15 kills while hitting .433. She also tallied four digs and five blocks on the evening. Sophomore outside hitter Laura DeBruler added 22 kills and 14 digs.

But the offense wasn’t the only thing working for the Illini on Friday. The defense held Iowa to just .170 hitting.

The win is the sixth in a row for Illinois (19-5, 10-3 Big Ten), allowing them to remain in sole possession of second place in the conference.

Next up for the Illini is No. 17 Minnesota on Saturday as the battle for second in the Big Ten continues.
