Day one of the 2008 Midwest Blast Tournament is over and the Illini are 3-3 in singles and 3-3 in doubles. Freshman Amy Allin recorded her first ever singles win at home, defeating Notre Dame’s Katie Potts 6-3, 6-2.

Junior Kristina Minor saw her first action after missing all of the fall season following a left wrist arthroscopy. She defeated Wichita State’s Laryssa Ferreira in a third set extended tiebreaker 6-7 (4), 6-4 10-7. Minor was not allowed to use her left hand during the match per doctor’s orders. Without a two-handed backhand, Minor said she focused on her backhand slice to stay in the match.
