Illini women’s basketball stopped by tough Temple defense

By Bret Greenberg

The slow start that has plagued the Illini in the first half all season long extended to the second on Sunday, as Temple came into Assembly Hall and defeated the Illini, 66-47.

Illinois (3-1) never seemed to get into a shooting rhythm, finishing the game 18 of 60 from the field. The Illini also lost the rebounding battle, 41-34.

With senior Chelsea Gordon out with an ankle injury she suffered against Missouri on Wednesday, freshman Fabiola Josil and redshirt freshman Lydia McCully picked up some of the scoring, putting in 10 and 13 respectively.

Forward Jenna Smith led the team with 17 points on 33 percent shooting. The junior hit two three pointers, including one with help from the backboard.
