Illini lineman Brent suspended after DUI arrest

By The Associated Press

URBANA, Ill. – Illinois coach Ron Zook said defensive tackle Josh Brent has been suspended from the team indefinitely after his arrest over the weekend.

Illinois State Police said Brent was arrested early Saturday in Urbana for driving under the influence. A Champaign County Jail official said Brent has posted bond and has been released.

Zook said in a release Sunday that Brent is suspended until the team can “gather all the facts.” He said officials will continue to monitor the information.

The 21-year-old Brent played in 10 games last fall as a sophomore. He had 34 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He had his biggest game of the season in a 27-24 win against Iowa, recording four solo tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and three hurries.

The Bloomington, Ill., native was a four-star recruit out of high school and also played in 10 games as a freshman. Brent is expected to be a key contributor next season on a defense that will lose about half of its starters from 2008, including three defensive lineman - Will Davis, Derek Walker and David Lindquist – who were in the regular rotation.
