Martin pitches Illini baseball past Stephen F. Austin, 4-2

By Peter Zervakis

It was another solid game for the Illini pitching staff Saturday afternoon, as senior Aaron Martin went eight innings without allowing an earned run in leading the Illinois baseball team past Stephen F. Austin, 4-2.

Martin garnered his first win of the season, and sophomore Nick Chmielewski pitched the ninth inning to get the save. The Illini are now 2-0 in Edinburg, Texas, at this year’s Al Ogletree classic.

Offensively, leadoff man Joe Bonadonna had a nice outing for the Illini, batting 2-for-4 with a double. Meanwhile freshman Josh Parr continued his outstanding play with a 2-for-3, two RBI and one run performance.

The Lumberjacks, who defeated Texas-Arlington 12-6 on Friday, drop to 2-4 on the season. Starting pitcher Erich Lehmann, as senior, was charged with the loss.

The Illini wrap up play in the Lone Star state on Sunday morning, when they face UT-Arlington.
