The No. 25 Illini baseball team wrapped up play at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 6-0 win over Central Connecticut State (7-4). Illinois went 2-3 in the tournament.
Outfielders Casey McMurray and Nick Stockwell accounted for three RBIs apiece for the Illini (13-5). The sophomore McMurray’s fourth-inning triple put the Illini ahead 3-0 heading into the fifth, and Stockwell, a senior, batted 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Senior third baseman Dominic Altobelli also had a nice day, hitting 2-for-4 and scoring two runs.
Freshman Bryan Roberts got the start and pitched seven innings for Illinois. Roberts was credited with the win and is now 2-0 on the year.
Senior lefty Ken Kerski was charged with the loss for the Blue Devils, whose offense was out hit 12-5 by Illinois throughout the game. Kerski gave up five earned runs in seven innings of work.
