Illinois hockey keeps winning streak alive

The Illinois hockey team extended its winning streak to seven Friday, beating the Iowa State Cyclones on the road 3-2.

The Illini fell behind early in the first period, but three goals in the second were enough to come away with the win.

Forward Matt Jennings got the scoring started five minutes into the second period, collecting one of the Illini’s two power-play goals on the night. Defenseman Brad Hoelzer scored less than a minute later to put Illinois up 2-1. Forward Tom Connell’s goal with two minutes left in the period would prove to be the game-winner, scoring the Illini’s second power-play goal of the night off a feed from Hoelzer.

Goalie DJ Kohler collected the win for the Illini.

Illinois will look to sweep the Cyclones and pick up another two points in the CSCHL standings on Saturday. Puck drops at 8:00 p.m.
