Volleyball falls to Hawaii in Sweet 16

The No. 5 national seed Illinois volleyball team traveled to Stanford, Calif., for an NCAA regional semifinal matchup against No. 12 national seed Hawaii on Friday.

But the Illini’s volleyball season ended there, as they fell to the Rainbow Wahine in four sets, 21-25, 25-10, 27-25, 25-16.

The Fighting Illini defense was unable to contain an intense Hawaiian offense that had a .298 hitting percentage.

Senior Kylie McCulley gave it her all in her last match of her career, leading the team with 14 kills. She was followed closely behind by junior Laura DeBruler with 13 kills and sophomore Michelle Bartsch with 12 kills.

Illinois ended its season 26-6.
