Mori named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Illinois gymnast Yoshi Mori was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. Mori had a stellar performance in a loss to Michigan on Saturday, as he posted a 15.850 on vault to win his second title of the season on the event and his fifth overall.

Mori also finished in second place in the all-around (87.250), placed third on pommel horse with a career-high score of 15.100 and took fifth on parallel bars (14.550).

Dittman receives honor

Illini first baseman Matt Dittman earned Big Ten Co-Player of the Week honors after a terrific weekend at the Caravelle Resort Classic. The junior hit .615, and he had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .722 on-base percentage. It is Dittman’s second career weekly honor. He also earned the award on April 13, 2009.

In the four games that Illinois split, Dittman scored seven runs and drove in five. He also had his first home run of the year. With two multi-hit games, he raised his average to .563, which is tops in the Big Ten. In Friday’s 11-10 upset win against No. 12 Coastal Carolina, Dittman went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.

For the season, Dittman has scored 13 runs, one homer and nine RBIs.
