DeBruler, Bonilla take weekly Big Ten honors

After its second week of Big Ten competition, the No. 7 Illinois volleyball team remained undefeated in conference play, with wins against Wisconsin last Wednesday and Northwestern Saturday night, moving to a 12-2 record overall. Two Illini athletes won player of the week honors; senior Laura DeBruler as Big Ten Player of the Week and freshman Jennifer Bonilla won Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Against Wisconsin, DeBruler broke the all-time Illinois kills record, posting 26 kills and 15 digs. On Saturday night, DeBruler had a 20-20, with 21 kills and 28 digs.

Bonilla made her mark Wednesday night, when she posted 32 digs, the sixth highest in school history. Saturday, she totaled 27 digs. This is her second time being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Illini volleyball athletes have totaled six player of the week awards this season.
