Volleyball rallies past Minnesota

After a five set victory against Minnesota Friday night, the No. 6 Illinois volleyball team gained full possession of first place in the Big Ten with a 6-1 conference record.

In the first set, Illinois won 25-23. Illinois hit .302 for the set and Minnesota hit .184. Illinois dropped the second set 25-6, having 10 errors and three kills. It was a back and forth battle in the third set and the Gophers won 31-29. Illinois took the fourth set 25-15 and the fifth set 15-9.

Junior Colleen Ward led the way for the Illini with 23 kills. The match will be re-aired Sunday at noon on ESPN2. Illinois returns to competition Saturday night at Iowa at 7:30 p.m.
