Baseball plans trip to the Dominican Republic

By Peter Bailey-Wells

The Illinois baseball team is heading to the Caribbean over Thanksgiving break, and will tour the Dominican Republic and play Dominican Summer League teams. The Illini announced they have eight games tentatively scheduled from Nov. 23-28. The trip is being funded by the Illinois baseball booster club — the Fighting Illini Dugout Club.

The team will participate in educational and cultural activities while on the trip and will also do community service in impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic. The NCAA allows baseball programs to go on foreign trips every four years, and the destination was partly a result of multiple trips that Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb has taken to the Dominican Republic.
