Former soccer player sues University

Former Illinois soccer player Casey Conine is suing University of Illinois Associate Director of Athletics Kent Brown, confirmed on Monday.

Brown declined to comment because the lawsuit is still underway. The New York Times reported the defendants named in the lawsuit were Athletic Trainer Brittany Scott, Athletic Director Mike Thomas and head coach Janet Rayfield.

Conine said she had collided with a goalkeeper during a game against Northwestern, and she was not checked for a concussion. Two days later, she was diagnosed with a concussion, Conine told the Times.

Conine is suing on the basis that the mishandling of the concussion ended her soccer career, the Times reported.
