Illinois hires new women's basketball assistant coach

By Daily Illini Staff Report

The Illinois women’s basketball team signed Jody Martinez to be an assistant coach, the University announced Monday.

Martinez has spent time as a head coach in NAIA Division II, most recently with the Southeastern University Fire.

“I’ve sat behind his bench and watched his team play several times, and I was incredibly impressed every time I watched his team play.” Bollant said in a press release. “He is a great addition to our staff and I know the Champaign-Urbana community will love him and his family.”

Martinez will be brought in to work with post players, the likes of sophomore center Chatrice White and others.

The hiring comes after Mike Divilbiss and the University parted ways due to a controversy involving former Illini players.
