Five Illinois divers will be traveling to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to compete in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships from Monday to Wednesday.

Seniors Maddy Crosby (1-meter) and Taylor Shegos (1-meter) alongside sophomores Allison Landis (1-meter), Brooke Michael (3-meter) and Taylor Michael (1-meter and 3-meter) will be competing in the qualifying competition.

All competing athletes will be from the NCAA Diving Zone C, which comprises all Division I diving programs from the states of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

The first day of competition will see four of the five Illini divers compete in the 1-meter dive.

Only nine of the 69 divers competing in the event will move on to the NCAA Women’s Diving Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.

On day two, the Michael twins will compete in the 3-meter dive alongside 55 other divers, with only 10 of them being invited to compete in the NCAA Diving Championship later in March.

The last Illinois diver to earn an invitation to the NCAA championship was Ling Kuhn in 2019 after placing 11th at Zones, needing to place in the top 12 to qualify in the platform diving event.

Kuhn was accompanied at Zones by then-freshman Shegos, who competed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives but failed to qualify for the Championships.

Shegos, alongside her fellow Illini, will look to leave their mark in Michigan, fighting for a chance at making the NCAA Championships.

The NCAA Zone C Championships will take place between Monday and Wednesday at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor. The 1-meter dive will take place on Monday, while the 3-meter will take place on Tuesday. Both events will start at noon on the respective days.
