For the second time this season, senior quarterback Luke Altmyer earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The quarterback threw for 235 yards and racked up 88 on the ground. His career-high five total touchdowns led Illinois (6-3, 3-3) to the blowout win over Rutgers (4-5, 1-5). It’s the first time since 2013 that an Illini has notched five touchdowns in a single game.
“I just compete,” Altmyer said. “I’m excited to keep on doing that and use my abilities that God’s given me to be the best.”
The quarterback was a force in the rushing game against the Scarlet Knights. He ripped off four runs of 14 or more yards. He also found the endzone on the ground, running in a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Altmyer also got into a rhythm in the passing game. He connected with four different receivers for his four passing touchdowns.

“He’s a dog,” said junior receiver Hudson Clement about Altmyer. “You see it every week.”
His unique stat line against USC won him the award back in week five. Against the Trojans, Altmyer threw two touchdowns, caught one and rushed for one. He also had over 350 total yards.
