After two years at Illinois, sophomore guard Cori Allen entered the transfer portal. She announced her decision Thursday via X.
“I want to thank the coaching staff and Coach Green for all of the opportunities in the last two years and the nonstop support,” Allen said in her X post.
Despite being a solid scorer in high school, Allen never got it going in college. She didn’t see the court much during her freshman year. Due to multiple players getting injured, the sophomore saw more action this season. However, she had an up-and-down year.
She struggled to make her shots this season, never scoring more than six points in a game. Head coach Shauna Green praised her throughout the season for her hustle. Her teammates said similar things, noting her ability to affect the game outside the stat sheet. More often than not, though, the guard finished games without scoring.
Allen is the only Illini to transfer so far. With her departure, Illinois has eight current players and is down to just three guards. It also has five incoming freshmen for next season, two of which are guards, including five-star recruit Destiny Jackson.

With many big names in the transfer portal already, Illinois will have plenty of options should it try to replace Allen.
