Illinois head coach Shauna Green announced the hiring of Jackie Alexander as the new assistant coach. The former assistant coach, Liza Fruendt, left for an assistant job at Mizzou.
“I have immense respect for what Coach Green and her staff have accomplished over the past three seasons at Illinois, as well as the remarkable track record she’s built throughout her career,” said Alexander in a statement.
Alexander has worked with four different programs, most recently with Toledo. She helped the Rockets to a 24-9 record and an at-large bid to the WBIT. Alexander also played college basketball, earning two All-Mid South Conference selections with the University of the Cumberlands.
The Kentucky native served in the Army, reaching the rank of captain. Alexander brings a lot of experience, in and out of basketball.
“Jackie has been an offensive and defensive coordinator at different institutions and has had success,” Green said. “She is a proven winner and has been a part of two major turnarounds in different programs. She understands what impacts winning!”
