Sinclair resigns position after facing felony charges

By Daily Illini Staff Report

Matthew Sinclair resigned his position as the assistant director of player personnel and relations within the Illinois football program, according to campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler.

Sinclair is facing felony charges of three counts of aggravated unlawful use of weapons and another count of county unlawful use of weapons after he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver while returning to Champaign-Urbana following an Illinois football game at Purdue in November. Shortly after the alleged incident, he was placed on administrative leave by the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Sinclair, who joined the program in April, was in charge of coordinating former player events, assisting with on-campus recruiting, overseeing the annual Illinois high school coaching clinic, among other responsibilities. He was also a former Illini linebacker and played between 2001-04.
