Former Illini Basketball coach Lou Henson was recently hospitalized in Houston.

According to the Associated Press, Henson was sent to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to test his immune system on Sunday. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2003, and has had been treated at the center before.

It is unknown when Henson will leave the hospital. The test can take up to several days to be completed.

Henson will be inducted to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in November for his coaching career that spanned several decades.

Henson coached at Hardin-Simmons from 1962 to 1965, New Mexico State from 1966 to 1974, Illinois from 1976 to 1995 and returned to coach at New Mexico State until 2005.

Henson is noted for taking both New Mexico State and Illinois to the Final Four.

His best season was coaching the “Flyin Illini” on their 1989 Final Four run. A team famous for their dunks, their success was only surpassed by the 2004-05 team that went to the national championship.
