Illini golfer Hardy making a push at Saguaro Amateur

By Ryan Wilson

Illinois golfer Nick Hardy started slow at 2016 Saguaro Amateur at the Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona, but after two rounds has made his way back up toward the top of the leaderboard. He began the second round with four-consecutive birdies, prompting the Saguaro Amateur to tweet about his “spectacular 65.”

Hardy is third at 6-under with only two strokes separating him from leader Wes Artac. Artac shot 8-under on the day, and is 4-under overall.

Hardy, the only Illinois men’s golfer to compete in the tournament, was tied 25th after shooting a 73 in the first round. He went 4-over through 12, but then birdied three of his next four holes.

Hardy tees off at 11:23 a.m. Wednesday for the final round of the tournament.
