Illinois soccer head coach Janet Rayfield announced in a press release Tuesday that Nick Stirrett has been added to the staff as an assistant coach. He will work with the goalkeepers and as a recruiting coordinator for the team.

A Champaign native, Stirrett spent last season with Penn State women’s soccer program. Last season, the Nittany Lions earned their 17th Big Ten regular season title, sixth Big Ten tournament title and and their first national championship.

“We are extremely excited to add Nick to our staff,” Rayfield said in the release. “He brings a wide variety of experience and will contribute fresh ideas in several areas. His energy, personality, and work ethic will strengthen our recruiting process. As a Champaign native, he also brings a passion for Illinois and a true to desire to help the Illini program reach the pinnacle of women’s soccer.”

Before his time at Penn State, Stirrett was the head men’s soccer coach at the University of Mount Union. He worked as an assistant coach for seven years prior to that with both men’s and women’s programs.

Stirrett graduated from Augustana College in 2006. He played soccer and ran track for the school.
